QuickBooks for nonprofits with clearer program reports
A nonprofit file should help a reviewer distinguish program activity from funds available to spend. With QuickBooks ProAdvisor expertise, Tidwell works alongside your CPA or attorney to organize that distinction in the software.

Agree on the reporting dimensions
Write down the board’s reporting questions before changing the chart of accounts. Keep contribution categories separate from program expense categories. Classes can segment transactions by department or program in QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced; a class name alone does not prove that donor restrictions have been satisfied.

Carry gift restrictions into the supporting schedule
Use a grant and gift register to retain restrictions, reporting periods and release instructions from the adviser. Decide how that schedule will reconcile to ledger balances. Do not replace donor documentation with a category selected from a bank feed. This is a proposed bookkeeping workflow, subject to the organization’s approved accounting policy.
Inspect uncoded activity before the board packet
QuickBooks offers Profit and Loss by Class reports. Review unassigned transactions and shared-cost allocations before preparing program comparisons. For an inherited file, test a small set of recoded entries against the original support and reconcile bank balances before distributing revised reports.
