Confirm account access and the reporting period

CDTFA online services supports return filing, payments and account review. Existing profiles use a username and password, while prior Express Login users without a profile are directed to sign up. Confirm the correct account and period before entering figures, especially when managing more than one business.

Assemble sales and business-purchase information

CDTFA requires a return even when there is no tax due, no sales or only nontaxable sales. Sales belong to the period of sale even when collected later. Permit holders also report use tax on business purchases with their returns, so review purchase invoices alongside the sales summary.

Support deductions before transferring totals

Some businesses qualify for the shorter return depending on their deductions. Reconcile each claimed deduction to supporting records and retain an explanation of the category used. CDTFA allows rounding to whole dollars; apply the chosen approach consistently and preserve the underlying detail for later review.

Complete payment and save both confirmations

CDTFA describes payment options including a bank debit after online filing, which can be scheduled up to the due date. Keep the return submission and payment confirmation separately, then reconcile the ledger liability to the approved return. Use the linked calendar guide to check the assigned filing schedule.
